The collection GREAT SINGERS OF FLAMENCO first issued by Le Chant du Monde in 1984 is celebrating its thirtieth anniversary. Its first twenty volumes are now considered works of reference, still definitive today. Le Chant du Monde has entrusted Pablo Garcia with the task of continuing this anthology of heritage initially undertaken by Mario Bois. Pablo Garcia knows all the secrets and arcana of flamenco and has selected for these four new compilations artists who have left an indelible mark on the history of flamenco. Unquestioned master of the cante gitano, a subjective expression for flamenco singing as practised by singers of gypsy origin, Porrina de Badajoz was a prophet only in his own country. He always refused to perform anywhere other than in the land of his birth. The three pillars of flamenco are guitar, dance and song. We have to acknowledge that Porrina brought a particular touch to the cante, giving it his amazing originality. Porrina s singing remains inimitable and his virtuosity, the fullness of his tessitura and the range of his vocal palette allow him to communicate the whole range of feelings and states of mind.
