Mozart lovers will, of course, have long since had recordings of the three symphonies recorded here in their collection. Brüggen and his evergreen ensemble have also released numbers 40 and 41 earlier - in older recordings on PHILIPS. This new recording crackles, mourns and gurgles with such airiness and commitment that I would like to recommend it without reservation. The internationally cast ensemble, with its headquarters in Amsterdam, is sometimes referred to as the "happiness machine". It does not need any gimmicks and has no PR consultant under contract. The reason for this is simply that they are good enough. A non-jittery commentary in the lovingly illustrated booklet rounds off the positive overall impression.
