Scenes from the Salzkammergut lead to Steyr, Styria and Upper Austria.• The Music • Unlike other great classical composers who worked in Vienna—Haydn, Mozart or Beethoven—Franz Schubert was born there and spent much of his short life in the city. At the same time he took pleasure in the Austrian countryside, reflected in his Trout Quintet, written for friends in Steyr whom he had met during a summer holiday.
