Mozart Camargo Guarnieri is considered the most important Brazilian composer besides Heitor Villa-Lobos. Guarnieri's piano music reveals its most striking stylistic features to the listener. One of his most popular works, the "Dança Negra", is inspired by impressions and rhythms of the folklore of his country - as is the "Suite Mirim". The "Ponteios" are characterized by enormous variety of styles and moods, and finally the "Sonata" shows the facets of Guarnieri's musical personality like a kaleidoscope. As in Guarnieri's "Piano Concertos", Max Barros demonstrates "an incessantly lively interpretation and complete mastery of expression" • (Gramophones).
