Conrad Höffler (1647-1705) published his Primitiae Chelicae collection for viola da gamba and continuo in Nuremberg in 1695. Considering the technical difficulties of the twelve suites, there can be no doubt that Höffler was a great virtuoso of the instrument, who knew exactly what the instrument could do. Guido Balestracci and his musical comrades-in-arms close a glaring gap in the discography of German instrumental music around 1700.
