For generations the violin sonatas of Georg Friedrich Händel have been regarded as important works of the repertoire, but there are well-founded doubts about their authenticity. Early editions led to the publication of some authentic works for instruments such as flute and oboe, but recent research agrees that the compositions were written for the violin. All sonatas are filled with Handel's stunning talent and skill, especially in writing expressive slow movements. Thus a whole series of wonderfully proportioned masterpieces was created.
Ariadne Daskalakis, highly praised by the international press for her interpretation of Giuseppe Tartini's violin concertos, plays a baroque violin on this recording
