The creative process of composing still seems to be a male domain - today and even more so in the late 19th and early 20th century.

This CD sheds light on the stylistically extremely varied work of British composers such as Ethel Smyth and Elizabeth Maconchy over a period of 80 years and shows this important but unfortunately far too unexplored aspect of musical life in the United Kingdom.

Violinist Clare Howick is particularly interested in the British violin repertoire of the 20th century. She plays a Stradivarius from 1721.

Royal Academy graduate Sophia Rhaman has already made more than 20 chamber music recordings.
