Listening to the performers of this remarkable recording, one can easily get an idea of what religious imprinting can mean. ARTEM With great sensitivity and delicacy, singers and instrumentalists approach this fragile music, which has a solemn undertone, but not in the manner of outward splendour, but more in an internalised form. The works recently edited by the Centre de Musique Baroque in Versailles offer a splendid palette of timbres, clear and distinct vocal lines, expressive text interpretation, and harmonic and rhythmic finesse. And the five singers and three instrumentalists of the ensemble Pierre Robert know how to put these qualities into the right light, with virtuoso brilliance and a delightfully natural expressiveness.
