In addition to Bruckner's two symphonies, this recording also offers a special rarity, Reger's Hölderlin setting "An die Hoffnung" with a Christa Ludwig who was at the beginning of her international career at the
time.
The same is true of the NDR Symphony Orchestra, which was only founded in 1945 by the British occupying forces on the model of the BBC Symphony Orchestra. The still young orchestra is heard here with works with which Carl Schuricht had a very close relationship. Collectors will be delighted to hear the first complete release of Bruckner's 8th Symphony with Schuricht and this orchestra.
