Benjamin Britten is one of the most prominent composers of the 20th century. His works provide proof that, by avoiding serial, aleatoric and electronic techniques and using only the tonal system, it is possible to write moving, appealing and penetrating music even in the 20th century. Britten made intensive eclectic use of the musical achievements of Western musical culture. Starting from stylistic elements from different epochs of history, he tried to achieve a new kind of beauty, and for this reason he took a very special place in "contemporary music".
