A professor for many years, Danish composer Per Nørgård (b. 1932) has been loudly praised and awarded great prizes around the world.
Singing Secrets is a thoughtful and profoundly lyrical album which is both a strikingly original statement and a splendid addition to Dacapo Records' extensive Nørgård catalogue. The programme demonstrates the range of Nørgård's compositions, with chamber and vocal pieces illustrating some of the distinctive steps of his musical journey.
The album features several world premiere recordings, including Nørgård’s Quintet, Op. 1, which was written in the early 1950s, just after the young composer’s school days.
The works are performed by six high profile European musicians; Signe Asmussen, soprano, Irena Kavčič, flute, Helge Slaatto, violin, Anette Slaatto, viola, John Ehde, cello and Erik Kaltoft, piano.
