Beautifully recorded at Potton Hall in Suffolk, Konstantin Scherbakov gives thought-provoking and wonderfully controlled accounts of the Op.34 Preludes. By comparison with Nikolayeva he is at times a little too sophisticated in matters of tonal finesse, and dynamic marking are a shade exaggerated; but this has such imaginative and masterly pianism that readers can afford to overlook the occasional affectation (which we have not encountered in this artist before).
