The Hungarian conductor Eugen Szenkar (1891-1977), very popular and well-known during his lifetime, made a crucial mistake: he did not take any recordings, with the exception of a few small productions from the 1920s. He never went back to the studio after that, and that also explains (at least in part) why he is almost forgotten today. For Szenkar, music could only take place live, as a fleeting event. Nevertheless, some of his recordings have survived in the archives of German radio stations, including this recording of a concert on February 20, 1950.
