Joseph Schuster, a well-known and respected Dresden composer during his lifetime, was granted the dubious honour of adding three of these Paduan quartets to the appendix of the Köchel catalogue, which thus identified these compositions as works by Mozart's hand. In the meantime, the question of authenticity has been resolved, and we can admire these pieces today as creations of a master who has, after all, proven himself worthy of an honourable mistake! The Quartet Joseph Joachim, playing on old instruments, with its subtle style of interpretation does the rest to do justice to these musical gems.
