Johann Mattheson was an exceptional personality, of whom the history of music remembers above all the theoretical work, which is today of fundamental importance for understanding the music of the first half of the 18th century. The work of the Hamburg composer stands at the threshold of a new era, founded by François Couperin and Jean-Philippe Rameau, which was to have a decisive influence on all composers of this genre until the end of the Ancien Regime. This recording hopes to contribute to making the musician Johann Mattheson known as a talented composer and promoter of musical progress.
