Two mini operas from the pen of "Orpheus of Pressburg" are offered on this CD in first recording. Kusser, one of the most outstanding musical personalities around 1700, could look back on an unparalleled career that took him all over Europe. The last station of his career was Dublin, where he held the title "First Composer and Master of Music" at the viceroyal court. In this position he wrote these serenatas. Several of his libretti contain highly revealing stage directions from the composer's hand. According to this, the performances must by no means have taken the form of secular cantatas, but must have been relatively elaborate stage spectacles, quite similar to their big sister, the baroque opera.
