For her first personal album, Amati Schmitt is surrounded by her brother Bronson Schmitt on rhythm guitar, Xavier Nikq on double bass and Dorado Schmitt on Peruvian cajon and violin.
The program is a skillful and skilful mix of waltzes, swing, bossa and walks in the purest Reinhardtian tradition. •
The choice to include Les Copains first, the most famous of Georges Brassens' songs, in his repertoire, is no accident. This "Buddies first" sounds here like a sort of "The Old Ones First". Whether he revisits the compositions of Dorado or those of Django, it is always with the same spontaneity, the same freshness and all the carefree and fiery audacity of youth. •
A stranger to the slightest temptation to demonstrate, Amati possesses the wisdom of those who serve before serving. His own creations are far from resembling the inconsistent "in the manner of" that we most often serve early virtuosos who only amaze the absent-minded. His musical sensitivity has led him to suggest rather than to affirm and his melodic inspiration to forge a personal universe in a musical field yet subject to codes and rituals as caricatural as they are alienating.
