This elegant and richly decorated production of Mozart's abduction by director Christoph Loy was frenetically acclaimed at the Gran Teatre del Licau Barcelona, one of the world's most important opera houses. • For Ivor Bolton, who leads the orchestra and choir of the Grand Teatre del Liceu in this wonderful production, it was his debut at Spain's largest theatre. For German soprano Diana Damrau, who was highly praised by critics for her performance of Konstanze, it was also the first role in this house. Franz Josef Selig was found to be one of the best osmins of all time by Opera News magazine and Christoph Strehl's Belmonte was recognized as flawless. Loy, who brings the entire spoken text of the work to full length, thus produces unexpected dramatic subtleties and emotional depths without neglecting the humour of the piece.
