Almost exactly 300 years ago, on 22 November 1710, the eldest son of Johann Sebastian Bach, Wilhelm Friedemann, was born in Weimar. In contrast to the work of his father, much of Wilhelm Friedemann's music had fallen into oblivion. Many of his compositions were lost in the Second World War and only reappeared in Kiev in 1999. •
This world premiere recording of four of his cantatas invites you on a musical journey of discovery and provides a fascinating insight into the unknown work of Wilhelm Friedmann Bach. The technically extremely demanding cantatas were written for Christmas and Ascension Day and bear witness to the musical virtuosity of Bach's eldest son.
