Pier Francesco Cavalli was the most successful opera composer of all in the middle of the 17th century. With his librettist Giovanni Faustini, he produced one "opera hit" after the other, which is not meant to be disrespectful at all, but rather hits the nail on the head, because a new opera was created for each season. Between the world premiere of Cavalli's opera La virtú de'strali d'Amore, which took place in Venice in 1642, and the recording of this "Resumption", which also took place in the lagoon city, more than 350 years of Sleeping Beauty lay in wait. Even more gratifying than the fact that this wonderful example of the Baroque opera is finally to be seen again, is the fact that Fabio Biondi, a true specialist of this musical epoch of the tragic-comic work of Monteverdi's heir Cavalli, has taken care of himself. In 1990 Biondi founded the Ensemble Europa Galante, now internationally renowned for its interpretations of Italian Baroque music.
