Nancy Dalberg (1881-1949) is considered one of the first female composers in Denmark, and she was the first woman in Denmark to compose a symphony (C minor, 1917). She studied with some of the most important composers of the time: Fini Henriques and Carl Nielsen, and her first string quartet was even premiered by Nielsen as a violinist. • Yet, Nancy Dalberg never got the acknowledge, she deserved, due to her time of living. With this new release we hope to shed new light on one of the female composers of Danish history. • The album contains the complete three string quartets by Nancy Dalberg – an early, a mature and a late quartet. Only the second has been recorded earlier, and thus this release features two world premiere recordings, made by the young and vibrant Nordic String Quartet, whose highly acclaimed debut album with Pelle Gudmundsen-Holmgreen's String Quartets (CD 8.226217) was released earlier this year.
