Red is the colour of blood, the colour of danger and the colour of temptation. Hans Christian Andersen took the symbolism to a new extreme of cruelty in The Red Shoes – an ancient folk tale here given a modern musical reworking bySiobhan Lamb and the Suoni Ensemble. • British born composer Siobhan Lamb (b. 1963) trained as a classical flautist at the Royal Academy of Music in London, and her music has a strong sense of narrative at its core. The Red Shoes is written for children and young people, but can also be enjoyed by adults with an interest in the universe of H.C. Andersen’s fairytales and new music. • The booklet includes the original fairytale The Red Shoes (1845) by Hans Christian Andersen, to read while listening to the music. • Each member of the Suoni Ensemble is hand-picked for their unique sound quality and their desire to tell stories through music making. In this recording the ensemble features world famous percussionist Marilyn Mazur, who has performed with musicians like Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter and Jan Garbarek.
