Around 1600, the learned circles of the Florentine Camerata planned nothing less than the revival of the Greek tragedy, which they understood as the ideal union of spoken word and music. Composers such as Peri, Caccini and Saracini created prototypes of the young genre of opera, which served as models for all later developments in Venice and Rome. Domenico Belli also belonged to this environment, whose Orfeo Dolente, written in Florence in 1616, is introduced here by pieces of various composers of the Seconda Prattica.
