Parnassi musici once more performs works by Johann Vierdanck in the most lively, virtuoso and Baroque manner possible; and once again in perfectly functioning ensemble harmony – on historical instruments, of course. Vierdanck, an organist and composer probably born near Dresden remained a member of the Dresden court orchestra from 1615 to 1631. The orchestra director at that time, Schütz, became Vierdanck’s teacher of composition. After some stays in Lübeck and Copenhagen, he held a position as the organist at the St. Marienkirche in Stralsund. Although Vierdanck is still among the less popular composers, his works are skilfully written and display a wealth of musical and stylistic elements, especially in their virtuoso handling of different contemporary national styles Vierdanck was able to cleverly unite.
