Little is known about the beginnings of the musical career of the Dutchman Ghiselin Danckerts, who appeared as a singer, composer and theorist. The only certainty is that he was accepted into the Papal Chapel at the age of about 18 and worked there for 27 years. Only fragments of his work have survived, including his Missa de Beata Virgine, sung by the Cantar Lontano ensemble under the direction of Marco Mencaboni. We hear the work of a composer who can be described as one of the last outstanding masters of the traditional Flemish school.
