Jordi Savall and his ensembles pay tribute to a place that benefited from its privileged connections with the Orient and where geniuses such as Monteverdi, Gabrieli and Vivaldi had their home.
Thanks to trade and thus contacts with the entire Mediterranean world, Venice was influenced by the Eastern Christian, Latin and Orthodox worlds as well as by the Ottoman, Jewish, Armenian and Muslim cultures. All these influences are evoked by the music in Savall's new major project, where the musicians follow the most important events in the fantastic millennial history created by people who, thanks to their courage, their knowledge, their spirit of adventure and their desire for dialogue, but above all their love of art and beauty, have been able to develop and maintain the wealth and freedom of their republic over this long period. Different soundscapes of the cities and countries around the Mediterranean are explored.
The wonderful singers of the Orthodox-Byzantine ensemble conducted by Panagiotis Neochoritis, guest musicians from Greece, Turkey, Morocco and Armenia, as well as the soloists of La Capella Reial de Catalunya, Hespèrion XXI and Le Concert des Nations will present religious and secular music from the oldest Orthodox traditions of Byzantium, Croatian songs, music from Istanbul and the Ottoman Empire, from Greece, Turkey and, of course, from Italy. Guillaume Dufay, Clément Janequin, Adrian Willaert, Joan Brudieu, Claude Goudimel, Ambrosius Lobwasser, Giovanni Gabrieli, Claudio Monteverdi, Antonio Vivaldi, Johann Adolph Hasse - himself Mozart and Beethoven - as well as traditions and arrangements can be heard in the unique portrait of Venice, which, as always with Alia Vox, is published in a luxurious edition with two SACDs and a richly and elaborately designed book.
