This disc is the first to propose the regrouping of all these works, some of which were very rarely or never recorded. Of the 6 works presented here, 4 are originally designed for the flute and 2 are adaptations of concertos for organ (opus IV nos 3 and 6) following the example of Handel himself (opus IV no 5, see below) below). Seeking to form a corpus of 6 concertos as it was done in the 18th century, Hugo Reyne chose 2 complementary works presenting for certain movements or patterns similarities with the sonatas for recorder and respecting its range. The corpus thus formed offers a fine example of diversity of writing and instrumentation: chamber concertos for 4 (flute, violin, cello and basso continuo; flute, 2 violins and basso continuo), soloist concertos (solo flute; flute and violin soloists; flute and cello soloists). In addition, the colors are varied, Handel using different sizes of flutes: the usual viola in F of course, but also the soprano and tenor in C.
