The works on this CD take us back to the time when Busoni, moving from Trieste via Vienna to Graz, completed his training as a composer. The Vienna chapter is the Piano Concerto in D minor, completed in Vienna on 21 March 1878. Ten days later Busoni was 10 years old. • The work conveys the impression of an artist who has already found his way into the Mozart tradition. In the String Quartet op. 19, composed between 1880 and 1882, there are echoes of or reflections on Brahms' lessons. Finally, with the Finnish Folk Songs op. 27, we enter a new creative phase of Busoni's work, which is marked by his encounters with piano teachers at renowned educational institutions. • The cycle for piano four hands, completed in 1889, was reissued in 1953 - in a version for string orchestra, which can be heard here. The whole thing is a recording of a concert on the occasion of the composer's 150th birthday on 1 April 2016.
