Emil Frey (1889-1946) was a Swiss pianist, composer, and teacher who studied under well known teachers at the Geneva Conservatory and the Conservatoire de Paris.; His music reflects the phases of his career and life, and shows his studies with Gabriel Fauré, his friendship with George Enescu, teaching in pre-war Russia, and his familiarity with musical developments in Western Europe.; This first review of his compositions also shows the listener his virtuosic knowledge of the piano, and a sense of both tragedy and jollity.
