In honor of the 100th anniversary of Russian composer Georgy Sviridov, Firma Melodiya releases an album of his songs and romances performed by Elena Obraztsova. The album displays the collaboration between Sviridov and Obraztsova, one of the most celebrated Russian singers of the 20th century.; Although Obraztsova has performed under the greatest conductors and on the most famous operatic stages of the world, she has devoted as much attention to chamber works.; This program features some of the songs from the cycle St. Petersburg Songs set to Blok’s poems, and an excerpt from the chorus cycle Songs from Hard Times based on Blok’s verses.; The Moscow Chamber Choir directed by Vladimir Minin and the chamber singers of the Yurlov Republican Academic Capella are the outstanding choirs featured on this album.; The tracks were recorded in studio, live at the Grand Hall of the Moscow Conservatory in 1980, and at the Grand Hall of the Leningrad Philharmonic Society in 1983.
