George Frideric Handel's great choral oratorio "Israel in Egypt" is the most valuable gift the composer could give to choral music: The choir acts as the protagonist in this sonorous work, which tells of the Old Testament exodus in pictorial drama. This recording impressively combines the strong individual characters of the vocal soloists with choir and orchestra to create a multi-layered interpretation that is simultaneously supported by a clear common musical goal. The present recording is the three-part original version from 1739.
