opis
"Two months before he was killed in July 1610 on a beach north of Rome (a fate reminiscent of filmmaker Pier Paolo Pasolinis), the great artist Caravaggio painted himself as Goliath's severed head. A terrible picture. Did he imagine what would happen? Caravaggio's dramatic history is suggestive and in many respects shrouded in obscurity, but has now become the starting point for a kind of "imaginary soundtrack" in the hands of the phenomenal Catalan baroque musician Jordi Savall (who also visits Stockholm in June). "Lachrimae Caravaggio" is a slowly pervading and sonorous lugubrious suffering music for instruments and voices with tones of the early 1600s, sometimes it is composed, sometimes it is improvised, and all the way brilliantly performed, the most striking of it, for Swedish listeners in particular, is that the motif and passacaglian "Caravaggio's song" that runs through the twenty-six short sentences is so similar to Evert Taube's "Who can sail for without wind ". An association that makes this already so mysterious music even more difficult and disturbing."
