The musical component with the orchestra of the English National Opera orchestra under the baton of Ivor Bolton and the soloists Gwynne Howell, Ann Murray and Joan Rodgers Joan Rodgers continues to thrill unabashedly today.

When G.F. Handel's Ariodante premiered in London in 1993, the usually distinguished Times exulted, "a Baroque triumph!" The favorable verdict may be due in large part to the successful musical-scenic realization. For director David Alden and conductor Ivor Bolton realize Handel's confusion about love and power with lively, cheeky esprit.

The "Alden-Bolton" team is congenially supported by the perfectly adjusted ensemble of singers, above all Ann Murray, Leslay Garrett and Christopher Robson in the leading roles. The outstanding musical realization, together with a visually appealing production, make the exuberant statement of the Times all too understandable.
