The work by John Blow, premiered in 1683, is considered the first English opera and has had a considerable influence on Purcell's Dido and Aeneas. During the recording of Venus and Adonis, great importance was attached to a meticulous reconstruction of the performance practice and conditions. This means: dance and movements as well as pronunciation of English follow baroque models. The stage is only lit by candles. A celebration for friends of baroque theatre and those who want to become one!
