Certainly the most beautiful and artistically demanding literature for flute in the first half of the 20th century originates from France. For her recording the French flutist Juliette Hurel presents several masterpieces of this epoch in different instrumentations. In addition to classics of musical Impressionism such as Debussy's Syrinx or Fauré's Sicilienne, Francis Poulenc's Flute Sonata is also a major work of nonchalant French neoclassicism. The fact that the recording is so convincing all around is not least due to the fact that Hurel let the repertoire mature for a long time and then selected a hand-picked Group of musician friends gathered around him.
