The seventh quartet of 1907 is one of the earliest surviving compositions. At the time, Toch submitted this work for the Mozart Prize and won a four-year scholarship to study composition at Hoch'sches Konservatorium in Frankfurt, which he gratefully accepted and used. The unique 10th Quartet is dedicated to Toch's cousin Bass and consists of a set of anagrams referring to the cousin's name. It was extremely well received and marked the beginning of the composer's international career, which was also established by a ten-year contract with Schott Publishing. These quartets, as well as the miniature string quartet "Dedication" (composed for his daughter's wedding), which can also be heard, are performed with commitment by the Frankfurt Buchberger Quartet, which (together with the Verdi Quartet) began preparations for this project years ago.
