Bruno Mantovani's name will not have escaped any lover of new music, the composer is recognized throughout Europe as an extraordinary talent, his compositions are often heard on the concert stages of his French homeland, in Germany and in Scandinavia. The training of the artist, who was born in 1974, already points to the double-faceted nature of his work: First he studied piano, jazz and percussion at the Perpignan Conservatory, then a master's degree in musicology at the University of Rouen, a composition course in Royaumont and at IRCAM (composition and computer science). The experiences from this varied education determine Mantovani's musical style today. Unbreakable fidelity to the stylistic principles of New Music, a quest for innovation, a great precision in the treatment of instruments is inspired by jazz improvisation, and everything unites to an unmistakable, personal style. Without ever leaving the shore of traditional cultural forms, Mantovani's composing also has the things that "understand themselves", "natural phenomena" so to speak, and an immediacy that neither interpreters nor listeners escape • The work of the composer, who is now almost 30 years old, has already received awards at numerous international competitions (e.g. in Stuttgart and from Unesco), he has been 'composer in residence' several times in France, Germany and Italy and will be a fellow at Villa Medici in 2004-05.
