One of the most charming examples of Jommelli's operatic work The music-historical significance of Niccolò Jommelli has only been recognized in recent decades and is being increasingly appreciated: as an innovator in the field of opera, he is now considered by musicologists to be of similar importance to his contemporary Christoph Willibald Gluck. Like Gluck, Jommelli was instrumental in bringing the genre of opera from the late baroque to the stylistic realms of Viennese classicism.
