U.S.-based Ukrainian pianist Mykola Suk won first prize and the gold medal at the 1971 Liszt-Bartók International Competition in Budapest.
Before moving to the United States, Suk taught at the State Conservatories in Kiev and Moscow. He is currently an assistant professor at the University of Nevada in Las Vegas. MUSIC & ARTS here releases an album of live recordings from 2004 to 2008 that showcase the artist as a remarkable Liszt interpreter. In addition to the Hungarian Rhapsodies Nos. 8, 12 and 13 and Après une lecture de Dante, the B minor Sonata can also be heard here.
