Carlo Tessarini da Rimini was a prominent figure full of peculiar traits of the early eighteenth century, already from the mid-1920s he enjoyed a reputation among the Dutch and English public and publishers comparable to that achieved by Vivaldi and Albinoni, in some cases even overcoming it.
The catalog of Carlo Tessarini's music includes only instrumental works. His method for violin Gramatica di Musica is also famous. He teaches the easy and short way to learn how to play the violin on the part, dedicated (Rome, February 20, 1741) to the Marquis Angelo Gabrielli, that is to the same "noble Roman patrician" to whom Tartini will dedicate his De Principles of Musical Harmony ( Padua, 1767). In the pieces recorded here, Tessarini appears particularly skilled in shaping effective and well-characterized melodic designs, but also in tracing clear harmonic itineraries, proof of a peculiar sensitivity towards tonal hierarchies which, in a few decades, would have constituted the substance of classic polarizations.
