opis
Solomon (1902 – 1988) was one of the best and most successful concert pianists in the world when in December 1956 his career came to an abrupt end after a debilitating stroke. This collection is the first to offer an overview that ranges from the most important early recordings such as Brahms’s Handel Variations and the concerto by Arthur Bliss premiered by Solomon, via the exemplary Beethoven sonatas, to the last performances in Rome, Berlin and London. • Solomon’s grandparents had emigrated from Poland to England. His father, Harry Schneidermann, worked as a men’s tailor in London and there changed his name to Cutner. By him young Solomon, the youngest of seven children, was familiarised with classical music early in his life. He received his first piano lessons at the age of five. His first concert performance he gave at the age of eight, playing Mozart’s Piano Concerto No.15, K450, among other pieces. A concert in New York in 1939 saw his final breakthrough into the established group of elite, world-class pianists
