The repertoire of the Brunettes, which were immensely popular in the 17th and 18th centuries, has not yet been discographically explored. These songs, set in a very simple manner, should stand out from the artistic, difficult to perform airs de cour. Their lyrics were mostly about rural love and life, so they were the musical backdrop for the popular shepherd fashion of the 17th and 18th centuries. The songs were published in periodically published collections and many renowned composers did not hesitate to compose contributions for these collections.
