The unusual ballet choreography Pixel is about virtual reality, optical illusion, state of the art technology and about today's music and dance, minimal music, electronic music and hip hop.
The extravagant cross-culture dance project was developed by choreographer Mourad Merzouki (from the company Käfig) together with French composer Armand Amar. The basic idea is simple: the stage is covered by a network of points, or pixels, via video projection. But where the dancers move, the projected pixels seem to be displaced by the dancers.
In this simple way, the stage becomes a supposedly living organism that reacts reflectively to the dancers' movements. The dancers, for their part, shape the appearance of the stage through their movements, seemingly stretching the space or creating wild pixel whirlwinds. A visual spectacle!
