The Codex Chantilly is one of the most important musical sources for the "Ars subtilior" (1377-1420), which is characterized by complex rhythms, the inclusion of distant tones and an elaborate, sometimes even mannered notation. • The music reflects the high degree of artistic and cultural refinement at the French court of the 14th century. • Between 1995 and 2010, the Ferrara Ensemble under Crawford Young recorded a total of four albums of artistic songs from the Codex Chantilly for ARCANA, which are summarized here in a box that is as inexpensive as it is appealing.
