For the coronation of George II, Handel wrote four magnificent anthems in 1727, whose solemnly representative sound splendour is hard to resist. Zadok the priest HWV 258 has been an integral part of every coronation of an English monarch ever since. Also the birthday ode for Queen Anne of 1713 / 14 proves the good contacts to the court, which Handel already had shortly after his arrival in London.
