As a contemporary of today's far more famous masters such as Galuppi, Pergolesi or Gluck, Giovanni Battista Ferrandini has developed his very own variant of the galant style: highly expressive, dense in the sound of the strings, idiosyncratic in melody and rhythm, yet written with great sensitivity for the singers. How good Ferrandini's music is, is proven, among other things, by the fact that his two passion cantatas recorded here, 'Il pianto di Maria Vergine', were long regarded as the work of Handel. Roberta Invernizzi is a very suitable interpreter to emphasize the qualities of the music.
