Who doesn't know it - Tchaikovsky's famous ballet "The Nutcracker" based on the story of E. T. A. Hoffmann. A new version of the version originally performed in 1892 at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg was staged at the Amsterdam Musiktheater in 2011. At that time the play was sold after only 14 performances. Today, however, it enjoys great popularity - not only at Christmas time. The two choreographers Wayne Eagling and Toer van Schayk devoted themselves to this ballet and created with "The Nutcracker and the Mouse King" a new production, which already had its premiere in 1996 and was performed again in 2011 with the Dutch National Ballet in Amsterdam. Eagling and van Schayk moved the plot to Amsterdam in 1810 and replaced the usual Christmas holidays with the traditional Dutch celebration on Sinterklaas evening. And so the fascinating story around Clara Staalboom takes its course ...
