The Italian Lauden of the 15th century are still a musical treasure that has only been little developed. La Reverdie discovers here for us those that were sung by Catherine of Bologna (1413-1463) and her sisters. The artistically multi-talented saint, whose birthday this year marks the 600th anniversary of her birth, was the founder of the first Clarissan convent in Bologna. The ensemble places the Lauden in the context of the mystical veneration of God as described by the saint in her treatise I dodici giardini (The Twelve Gardens). The combination of varied instrumental and vocal sounds makes this recording a perfect introduction to this repertoire.
