Franz Danzi's outstanding wind quintets have been particularly well preserved in concert life. His enchanting flute quartets are based on a common concept: the unusual range of forms of expression with dramatic scenes, a Venetian gondello song, delightfully dark abysses and lovely bel canto canzons. Sounds of folk music with a slow drone and lyre-like melodies alternate with surprisingly rebellious rhythms. The Ardinghello Ensemble around the flutist Karl Kaiser, who feels particularly connected to this fairy-tale world of Romantic ideas, is the best place to put these works.
