opis
It's been a long time since we had seen an album of Aka Moon with the only three names of its initial configuration. In fact, since the first disc of 1992 (the one with the giraffes on the sleeve) which has today become almost impossible to find, the band had never made a trio compact yet. This is why Unison , which celebrates Aka Moon's twenty years of existence, is something of an event: the healthy refocusing of three exceptional artists after a 20-year journey in which their unique music has been confronted with experiences as diverse as enriching, jumping with a disconcerting ease of African polyrhythms to Indian raga, electric fusion (with guest guitarists) to urban cadences, and even rubbing up to contemporary classical music in a unique production remained legendary ( Invisible Mother , 1999). So it is a mature and experienced Aka Moon who found himself in the studio to make this effervescent and complex music burst again with the hysteria of the first days. What strikes first when listening to this superbly mixed record is the turbulence of the rhythms built by the incredible duo composed of bassist Michel Hatzigeorgiou and drummer Stéphane Galland. Once his jaw picked up after the initial assault and while remaining galvanized by the energy deployed by the two men, we can focus more on the saxophonist Fabrizio Cassol, more sober and fluid than that of his two stooges but, paradoxically (and this is one of the secrets of this progressive trio out of norms), in perfect harmony with them. The agility of each other is of course highlighted in a few playful pieces (Hatzi on Michel Is back and Galland on For Drummers Only ) but the essential element remains this unique musical fusion which arises from the optimal interaction of these three individual talents with singular but compatible ideas. And above all, do not look here for vain demonstrations of outbidding on the part of these musicians. Aka Moon is above that: they have reached a collective nirvana from which music flows naturally, like lava after a volcanic eruption. And among the string of notes that fuse in all directions, we find beautiful melodic lines unusual that will draw from other cultures further east. Because, for ever curious and dissatisfied, the men of the moon are already on other tracks, looking for new adventures.
